Me Time - Eskildsen's first solo album, releasing nov 15th, is a very personal project spanning a few years of compositions while becoming a dad.

Some tunes are written on paper, others by playing. This one is the latter, written while touching the keys and letting the mind and fingers wander. The melody is initially presented with a contemplative mood, but gradually shifts into an energetic calypso-vibe. punctured by a more wide b-part. The improvisation reveals Eskildsens rhythmical prowess, with a shifted lefthand bassline supporting the lines and driving the energy forward. The goal is to merge the scandinavian tone and sensibility with a strong focus on rhythm and momentum.

Etude no. 3
An older composition - It was in an unfinished state for many years, but taken up again and rewritten, with some extra arrangement and flourishes. The tune explores a relation between melody (a very static, almost single note melody) and a shifting harmonic space underneath. The context of the melodic note shifts during both the theme and improvisation - making it work as an anchor to the harmonic exploration. A bit of a role reversal compared to traditional improvising in the jazz idiom.
This is perhaps the albums most classically inspired tune, taking some cues from Scriabin and perhaps Brahms. The resulting expression is quite calm, despite the somewhat shifting and at times challenging harmonics.
